Quadralite Rx400 Ringflash

Quadralite Rx400 is unique in several respects. It combines a large ring-shaped flash tube, maximum flash energy of 400 Ws and battery power in a single compact unit. Its low weight and compact design make it easy to store and transport and, most importantly, comfortable to use. The lamp can operate both in the studio and on location without external flash generators, inverters or other portable mains-power solutions.

Quadralite Rx400 Ringflash is an excellent tool for fashion and portrait photographers. The distinctive ring-shaped flash tube produces light with a characteristic look, creating soft illumination with very little visible shadow around the subject.

Flash power can be adjusted across a 7-stop range. Photographers working close to the subject or with shallow depth of field will appreciate the ability to reduce flash output to just 3 Ws. Adjustment in 1/3 EV increments allows precise control of illumination. The lamp also includes a removable milky-white plastic diffuser that softens and spreads the light from the flash tube.

An important feature is HS (High-Speed) mode, which allows flash synchronization at shutter speeds shorter than the camera’s normal X-sync time. This can be particularly useful in the studio or in strong ambient light, where flash may be needed to balance or overpower sunlight.

Portrait photography is not the only area where Rx400 performs well. In advertising and product photography, its very short flash duration can freeze water droplets and other fast-moving subjects. At minimum power, flash duration can reach 1/10000 s (t0.5), capturing events that last only a fraction of a second. After such a short flash, the lamp can be ready again in as little as 0.05 s. Rx400 Ringflash also offers a stroboscopic Multi mode for dynamic sequences. Another useful feature is the energy-efficient LED modeling light, adjustable in three intensity levels. It is especially helpful in the studio, including when working with manual-focus lenses, and makes it easier to preview the character of the light before taking the shot.

The lamp can be triggered by cable through a standard PC-sync connector or optically via a photocell synchronized with another flash, for example the camera’s built-in unit. It can also work with the Quadralite Navigator radio system by connecting a compatible controller to the remote-control port; the Navigator controller is sold separately. Radio control provides cable-free convenience together with repeatable, precise triggering. Rx400 Ringflash can also be combined freely with other Quadralite lamps such as Pulse, Move and Up!, which can use Quadralite Navigator radio triggers as well.

Quadralite Rx400 Ringflash is powered by the high-capacity Quadralite Rx-BP lithium-ion battery rated at 4500 mAh, so no additional wired power source is required. A fully charged battery provides up to 450 full-power flashes, supporting comfortable operation during long sessions and in locations without access to mains electricity.

Quadralite Rx400 Ringflash includes a metal camera bracket with adjustable positioning. It uses a standard 1/4"-20 tripod screw compatible with virtually all cameras. The inner diameter of the flash ring is 95 mm, leaving enough clearance even for many medium-format lenses.
